How to Install & update Kodi to latest version directly on any device

For proper functioning and stability it is recommended to update your Kodi to the latest released stable version. An update version includes new features , bug fixes, stability and performance improvements and important security updates.

Steps to update Kodi to the latest update:


Android

  1. Launch Google Play
  2. Click on the hamburger menu (the three lines at the upper left corner)
  3. Click My apps & games
  4. If an update to Kodi is available, you see it under the Updates pending section. Click on Update on the right side of the screen
  5. Wait for the installation to finish

Windows

  1. Click here to go to the download page of Kodi.
  2. Scroll down and click the Windows icon
  3. Click INSTALLER (64 BIT). Kodi installation file will be downloaded to your computer
  4. Once the download is finished click on the file to execute it
  5. In the welcome screen click Next
  6. In the license agreement screen click I agree
  7. In the choose components screen leave all the components checked and click Next
  8. Select the destination folder and click Next
  9. A popup appears asking you if you want to overwrite the previous installation, click Yes and then click OK
  10. Select a start menu folder, or create a new folder, or check Do not create shortcuts if you don’t want to create one and click Install
  11. Wait for the installation to finish and click Finish.

Xbox One

  1. Click the Xbox button to open the guide
  2. Click My games & apps
  3. Click Updates
  4. If an update to Kodi is available, click on it
  5. Wait for the installation to finish

Linux

Here are the steps how to update Kodi on Ubuntu:

  1. Launch the terminal window
  2. Type the following commands in the terminal:
    1. sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
    2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
    3. sudo apt-get update
    4. sudo apt-get install kodi.

Here are the steps how to update Kodi on Debian:

  1. Launch the terminal.
  2. Type the command in terminal to edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list:
    • sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
  3. At the end of the file add this line:
    • deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-backports main
  4. Save the file and close the file editor.
  5. Type the commands in the terminal as mentioned below:
    • sudo apt-get update
    • sudo apt-get install kodi

MacOS

Here are the instructions to update Kodi on MacOS

  • Click the URL for the download page of Kodi to download the latest kodi version.
  • Scroll down and click on the MacOS icon.
  • Click the INSTALLER(64 Bit).After which the disk image will be downloaded on your machine.
  • Open the Kodi image.
  • Click on the Kodi icon and drag the same in the applications folder
  • Open Kodi app.Ignore the warning of an unidentified developer. By passing the same can be done by right clicking (CMD + Click) and click on the Open.

iOS

Here are the instructions to update Kodi on MacOS

  • First you need to download Cydia Impactor from this link and extract the same.
  • To download latest Kodi IPA file for iOS following this link.
  • Connect your iOS device to your computer and close itunes if in case opens.
  • Drag the Kodi IPA file into the Cydia Impactor window
  • Select your iOS device in the drop-down menu and click Start
  • Enter your Apple login  ID to sign the IPA file and the app should start installing
  • Once installation is complete go to Settings > General > Profiles & Devices Management and open your Apple ID profile
  • Click Trust to trust the new Kodi app

Raspberry Pi

  1. Launch Kodi
  2. Click the Settings icon 
  3. Click LibreELEC
  4. Hover over System
  5. Change Automatic Updated to Manual
  6. Click Update Channel and change it to the latest version
  7. Click Available Versions and change it to the latest version
  8. Click Yes to confirm the update
  9. Wait for the update to complete
